Two weeks old!!!! 6-22-12

Jordan is two weeks old today!! We are so blessed to be able to have this time with our little miracle baby. It is really hard to imagine that he has already gone through and overcome so much in such a short period of time.  We were informed today that Jordan is actually the second smallest baby that this hospital has cared for in their NICU.  How crazy is it that our little boy gets the honor of being such a BIG testimony with such a little body?  God is so great and so powerful.  I am astounded at how miraculous God’s power is.  I am so thankful that we have been given this honor.  Jordan melts my heart when I look at him and think about him and I cannot wait until I can cuddle him in my arms and smother him with kisses!!  Being born 17 weeks premature with all odds against him, God has truly shown us that He has everything under control.  There was actually another baby girl born last night 16 weeks premature so Jordan is no longer the youngest baby in the NICU.  I don’t know anything on the status of that baby’s health but I pray that God would bless her family as He has mine.
Jordan is continuing to grow and develop into a strong little boy.  His digestion and nutrition are going very well.  He is now eating 2.5ml of milk eight times per day and that amount will be increasing by 0.5ml per day.  Praise God there have been no issues with his intestines or digestive system from being so premature.  The main concern and focus is now on his lungs.  Doctors were using the HFV system to prevent his lungs from further ventilator damage but during his time with the HFV he had many moments of low heart rate.  A low heart rate is not good for his brain development.  Because of this side effect, doctors have decided that it would be best to use a combination of HFV and Conventional Ventilator to provide him the most benefits.  The HFV is good to prevent lung damage, but his oxygen levels and heart rate are more stable on the conventional ventilator.  We pray that God would be with the doctors as they decide which options are best and the timing involved in those options.  Jordan is also going through a low steroid treatment twice per day to mature his lungs and body.  The faster that his body matures and grows; the more likely it is that his lungs will overcome any lung damage that may cause harm to him in the future.  We serve a great and mighty God and we know that He is more than able to completely heal our little boy with no lasting damage of effects.  If this is what God has planned for Jordan’s life, we trust in Him and surrender to His will.
The NICU is doing a very good job at trying to make our experience encouraging and unique.  They are making him a baby book while he is in the NICU and are constantly updating his charts and records for our personal viewing.  We are so very thankful that God has planned every detail including the location to give Jordan the best chances possible.  Jordan’s nurses are so nice and it is obvious that they adore their jobs and adore watching the babies excel.  Jordan reacts to our voices.  When we start talking to him through the incubator window his heart rate goes up a little and he starts moving around and wiggling more.  It is such a blessing to watch him and know that he can still receive our love.  Once he is off of the ventilator we will be able to hold him.  We are looking forward to this moment.
We have been taken care of so well by our church family through this whole experience.  We have people bringing us meals and still taking care of Jason.  We have amazing friends that come up with us to help translate and to help us with the legal documents and everything.  We have been so blessed to be surrounded by God’s family.  Plus all the wonderful people that are praying for our family even when they do not know us personally.  We want to say thank you to all of you!!
Jason is doing well.  He is such a silly little boy and I love to watch him play air guitar and make funny comments that show how he views life around him.  His innocence is heartwarming.  The other day I was about to pump and Jason grabbed the pump and pulled up his shirt and put it on his belly and told me that it was his turn to make milk for baby Jordan.   We all started laughing.  As Jacob and I were getting dinner ready this evening Jacob stopped me to give me a few kisses and Jason looked over and said “oh mommy and daddy kissing again…gross!!”  LOL.  Jason is such a blessing and we are so thankful for his loving spirit.  I do need to get going on his potty training but with us going up to Aomori so often; it just doesn’t seem like the right time.  Pray for us on that one!
I am so grateful for my wonderful and loving husband that puts up with me even with my lack of sleep grumpy attitude.  This journey would not be the same without my soul mate by my side.  Although we are young and met at a young age, it was not by mistake.  God meant for us to be together and we are still madly in love <3 We have some important meetings coming up next week between base doctors and Japanese doctors.  We pray that God would have his hand in all the decisions that are made and that Jordan’s care would be top priority.  We know that God is in complete control.
Lord, we are so blessed and so grateful for your grace and power.  We ask that you would continue to infuse Jordan with your strength and continue to hold him in your healing hands.  We ask specifically that you place your hands upon his lungs and allow him to mature and develop so that he may soon be off of the ventilator.  We long for the day when we can love on him more and the sooner he is breathing on his own, the sooner that day comes.  We know that your timing is perfect and even though we desire these moments, You have them planned out to be the most perfect.  I want to thank you for Jason and his health and growth.  He is such a smart, funny, and imaginative little boy.  Help us to give Jason the attention that he deserves and not forget about our parenting in times of stress.  Thank you for your blessings with Jacob’s work.  I rely on him so much lately and I am thankful that his job has been understanding and helpful.  We know he will return to work soon but I know that you are preparing us for that time and that it will be perfect timing.  We surrender everything to you and trust that your will is the best for our lives.  I have found that surrendering our lives and emotions to you lord actually makes life much easier and bearable and I am so grateful that you are teaching us these lessons and teaching us to rely on you.  Please continue to strengthen us and use us as great testimonies toward your will.  We ask all these things in your name, Amen.
