45 Days old!! 7-23-12

Jordan is 45 days old today! Today was a good day for us and for Jordan.  It always makes us happy when we can hear good news about his health and progress.  We didn’t receive an update yesterday.  I am sure the doctors are very busy but it does get challenging waiting for an email.  I think this is all part of God’s plan.  We are learning patience as well as many other things.  God is guiding us along this path and teaching us each step of the way.  Yesterday Jordan’s CRP level was 1.4.  So it had gone down.  Today it was 0.7 CRP.  YAY!!  This number means that the inflammation and infection is controlled.  It is not completely gone yet but it is controlled.  A normal CRP level is 0.3 or under.  As the number gets to 0.3 the doctors will decide when to stop the antibiotics.  Probably in a couple of days.  His x-ray is also showing a lot of improvement! They stopped the steroid treatment yesterday.  This treatment went directly to his lungs to rapidly build lung tissue and make repairs to damages.  Now they need to observe him for a few days to watch for side effects from the steroids.  These side effects can be low hemoglobin (anemia), low blood pressure, low sodium levels, and problems with urination.  If he is in the clear after a few days of observation they will begin to wean him from the ventilator.
They usually like to wean using the HFO machine.  With this machine they will slowly lower the mean air pressure (MAP).  It starts high around 17-18 and they wean it down to 12 before extubation from the ventilator.  It is possible that the HFO ventilator will be more difficult for Jordan because it is high frequency and doesn’t match his breathing.  If this is the case and he has a hard time on the HFO then they will switch back to the AVRP that he is on right now.  This machine is very similar to the CPAP machine that he will wean to but it uses high pressure.  This machine matches his breathing better so they will use it if HFO doesn’t work well and they will wean him on this machine the same way, by lowering the MAP down to around 12.  I am so excited that they are starting to talk about the process for weaning because it feels like we have been waiting for this time since he was born and now it is here!!
We feel so honored that this little boy is our son and that God is doing miraculous things in his life!  God deserves all the credit.  They also weighed Jordan again and his new weight is 1lb 10oz.  This is fantastic!!  The doctors had wanted him to double his weight before extubation but they did not think it would happen for him because he was fighting the infection.  They expected his weight gain to be much lower.  The doctor said he was surprised by this number and very happy with Jordan’s progress!  It makes me so happy to hear the doctor talk about how impressed with Jordan he is!  Jordan is being a great testimony of God’s power!!
Jacob and I went searching for some fabric today for our quilt square.  We didn’t have any luck!  But hopefully we can head out to a few of the other fabric stores in town and in the next town over and find some great things!  I want to bring a few squares into NICU to let the doctors and nurses write a message if they wanted to.  I have heard that many people have started working on their squares! I am so excited to see the finished quilt and see all the love!
Jacob and I also started our workout routine up! We are doing an altered version of the couch to 5k program.  I know that Jacob is more advanced in his physical fitness than I am but I am thankful that he is willing to do a program with me and work together toward health and fitness.  He finds ways to make the program challenging for him as well.  We are excited to get into good health! Then we cut Jacob and Jason’s hair and Jason had his Mohawk shaved off.  As much as I loved it…I was ready for just buzzed again! J He enjoyed it while it lasted though.  He got even more attention for his fan club….is that even possible?! LOL I swear Jason is extremely popular.  Wherever we go we find at least three or four people that have to rush up and say hi to him!  Yes, they all say hi to Jason first.  LOL We are so blessed with our two precious children!  Jacob is heading back to work tomorrow for the first time.  It will be a big change for him waking up at 6am again…poor guy!! Lol! Jason and I are going to hang out and do some organizing.  We also have a pretty awesome play date with our friends planned!
We are just so blessed and honored each and every step of this journey.  God is doing amazing things and we get to watch these miracles first hand.  Although communication with the doctor can be difficult, God is taking care of us and placed us here for this very purpose.  We are constantly learning and growing.  You know, before I would always refer to myself as a “baby Christian”.  I didn’t think that God would use me in powerful ways because I was not “studied” enough.  You know I still very much consider myself a baby Christian.  I have so much to learn!!  Do you ever get over that feeling? Lol!  But one thing I have learned is that God can use ANYONE.  Even a tiny precious little baby can be used for God’s purposes and God’s plans.  A brand new Christian or a person who has been a Christian for years…God can use anyone!  He equips us for the tasks that he plans and He is with us each step leading and guiding.  He holds our hand and leads us along the path.  We just have to be willing to hold on tight to His hand and trust his lead.
Lord I praise you so much for the blessing you have placed in my life.  Jordan is a precious miracle that you are using for your purposes already.  You are preparing him for a lifetime of testimony.  I praise you for his weight gain.  So much gain that even the doctor was shocked.  What a great testimony of your awesome power!  I praise you that the infection is clearing up and that the process is starting to wean him from the ventilator.  I pray that you would place your healing hands on his lungs.  Completely remove the infection and protect his lungs from another infection starting.  Lord give him complete lung health and lung strength.  Allow the process of weaning to be smooth and not challenging.  Be with Jordan each step of the way giving him strength.  Guide the doctors as they make the important decisions.  Give them wisdom and love.  Allow them to see your power through us.  Plant seeds in their hearts.  Lord thank you for Jason.  Thank you that he is so popular and so easy going.  Thank you for allowing us to be his parents.  I adore watching him learn and imagine.  Help us to lead him to be like you.  I pray for Jacob as he returns to work tomorrow.  Allow him to make a smooth transition of waking up early again and getting back into his routine.  I pray that you would help me to be able to get back to my chores and jobs as well without his constant help.  I pray that you would help us stick to our workout routine and help us in the hard moments on our way toward health.  Lord give us strength, rest, and peace.  Lead us each step of the way.  We are here to follow your path.  We ask all these things in your name, Amen.
