Jordan is 40 days old
today! I am excited for this number because 40 has always been an important
number in the bible. Many of God’s
followers were prepared and transformed for God’s purposes in a span of 40
days. Jordan has been God’s witness for
the past forty days and we are so blessed by his presence. I pray that in the past 40 days of Jordan’s
life, you have also been transformed by sharing in this journey with us. I have been changed for sure. I pray that God has touched your heart
through Jordan and that you have come closer to Him along the way.
Today we had a meeting with our
friends who translate for us and the doctor.
This allowed the doctor to speak to us in greater detail while we were
there in person. Did I mention how
thankful we are for our awesome friends? We like to joke around that we are their
children. They take care of us so well
and we love them for it! Anyways, the
doctor showed us the data print outs of their tests. He showed us when they found the inflammation
begin to come back and how they make their diagnosis. This morning, Jordan’s inflammation response
was 4.6 CRP. This shows that it is
slowly coming down from the day before.
The inflammation and the infection are two different things but the
inflammation is caused by the bacteria.
Even when the infection is going away, it takes longer for the
inflammation to go away as well. The
white blood cell count was almost back to normal for today’s test. This is good news because they feel as if
they have controlled the infection and now need to just finish getting rid of
it. They do this with the
antibiotic. Jordan is on two antibiotics
right now. One is mainly for the
inflammation and the other kills the bacteria.
The specific bacteria that caused his pneumonia is called pseudomonas
aeruginosa. This type of bacteria is found pretty much everywhere. To the normal immune system, the bacteria is
very easy to fight off and does not even effect a healthy person. Jordan’s immune system is very underdeveloped
though so his body was unable to fight off even this weak bacteria. The doctor believes that he will slowly get
better each day and his inflammation will be healed.
The doctors still have the goal
to remove the ventilator by the end of the month. The goal is for about 10 days. As the inflammation decreases, they will
begin to wean him off of the ventilator.
In order to do this, the doctor believes that they will need to use
steroids again. The steroids will
actually help the inflammation go away faster, but a side effect is that they
lower his immune system. This means that
Jordan could contract another infection again before the weaning process is
finished. Of course we do not want this
to happen at all. Please be praying that
God would boost Jordan’s immune system and allow no bacteria to enter his
body. The doctor also believes that this
is why he contracted the pneumonia in the first place; because they have been
using steroids for his treatment so he was unable to fight off even this weak
bacteria. Pray that God would have
perfect timing in place for the ventilator to be removed.
The sooner Jordan comes off of
the ventilator, the sooner his lungs can recover. Jordan has CLD or Chronic Lung Disease. This in something that they cannot avoid with
babies who are on the ventilator for as long as Jordan needs to be. The lungs can heal themselves though over
time so it is not necessarily something that Jordan is going to have his entire
life. How awesome is our God that He
created our bodies so perfectly to regenerate cells and tissues that have been
damaged or broken down. The human body
is such a testimony to God’s perfect and awesome power. The systems of our body are so complex it is
almost ridiculous to think that our bodies could have come together by
chance. There was definitely a designer
in the creation of humans. God created
us so perfectly.
We are going to be doing a project
for Jordan and would love your help. We
will be making him a "Prayer Quilt" and we need your prayers and
messages. We want Jordan to be able to
see the massive amounts of people who have been praying for him and his success.
So he can see the people who have been loving him and supporting him. We would like everyone to send us a square of
fabric with a prayer or message written on it.
We also ask that you would include your name and location on the
square. Once we get the squares, we will
be sewing them into a quilt for Jordan.
Your square needs to meet the following requirements:
1. It needs to be 100% cotton and pre-washed.
2. Please use a fabric pen to write your messages so it
doesn't bleed.
3. Choose between these three sizes for your square 2 1/2
in, 3 1/2 in, or 6 1/2 in.
4. When writing your message, leave a 1/2 in margin to allow
room for sewing.
You may use whatever color or style that you want in order
to personalize your square. You can
either hand deliver your square to me or my parents or Jacob's parents; or you
can mail them to us. My mom is setting
up a PO box to receive the squares. As soon
as I have the address I will post it. We
would be so blessed and honored if you would help us make this precious
gift. Let's see how big we can make it!
Feel free to share this message with any others who have been praying and
thinking of us. We love you all!

Lord, I thank you and praise you
for the continued progress with Jordan’s pneumonia. We ask that you would heal him completely and
fully from this infection. Lord please
give him your strength to fight off this infection and to fight off all other
bacteria that is introduced into his body.
Lord we ask that you watch over the weaning process from the ventilator. We ask that you would allow Jordan’s breaths
to be strong and frequent and we ask that you would remove the inflammation so
that he can breathe better on his own.
We ask that you would have your hands on the steroid situation. Allow the steroids to be beneficial for his
lungs but also do not allow them to compromise his immune system. We pray that you would not allow Jordan to
contract any more infections during the process. Have your healing hand on him and guide him
toward health. Lord I want to pray for
the awesome doctors and nurses that are caring for Jordan. Please bless them with Jordan’s life and
allow Jordan to make an impact and to plant seeds in their hearts. Lord I pray for those people who have been
praying for us. Please bless them in
their walks with you lord and draw them closer to you. Allow my voice to touch their heart as I
share the stories of your work with them.
Thank you for giving us an awesome body of believers and friends to love
on us and support us. Lord I pray that
you would give us rest and patience.
Guide us in our journey and help us to rely on you minute by minute. Let us never lose focus from you. Thank you Lord for your blessings on our
lives. In your name, Amen
