8 weeks old!! 8-3-12

We all had a great day today!!  We drove up to Aomori this morning to see baby boy and Jacob and I had a really great conversation about our future and how God is leading us.  I find it so awesome that God just opens up doors and puts you in the path exactly where he wants you and where you are needed.  Life is not about how much money you have or how many nice things you are able to own.  Life is about fulfilling the purposes that God has laid out for you.  It is about loving yourself, your neighbors and your enemies.  God wants us to be happy and he plans the paths that are best for us.  These are not always the easiest paths but they do serve a purpose.
Jordan is doing well today.  He is still on the PAV setting.  The doctors feel like this setting is the very best for Jordan and causes very little damage to his lungs.  He is breathing on his own and breathing strongly.  There are times when he will forget to take a breath but the machine provides the assistance.  This is the machine that they normally use right before they change to CPAP.  The doctor explained today that they have taken many different cultures but all of these are coming back negative for bacteria.  Because of this, they cannot locate any signs of infection in his body besides the inflammation.  It is possible that the inflammation is just his body’s reaction to multiple different things and that he does not actually have an infection at all.  The doctor said that it is common for micro preemies to show inflammation with no other signs of infection.  His inflammation response tests are continuing to decrease.
Jordan is on antibiotics right now and has been for the last few weeks because of all the infections.  The antibiotics suppress the production of platelets.  He already received one platelet transfusion but will most likely receive another in the next couple of days based on his numbers.  Another common side effect that happens in almost all micro babies is that long term antibiotics will cause digestion issues and diarrhea.  Jordan does not have any digestion side effects from the antibiotics.  The doctor said he was impressed by this and impressed with how well Jordan’s intestines were designed (yes he said designed!!) at such an early stage of pregnancy development.  God is awesome and designed Jordan perfectly and wonderfully.  Hopefully within the week Jordan will no longer require the ventilator and will be able to transition to CPAP.
After we got back home Jacob left to go practice for youth rally.  This is a Japanese outreach program that our church hosts.  Japanese youth in the surrounding areas come to Misawa for the weekend and stay in American homes.  They have three days of worship and a Japanese speaking teacher.  The theme for this youth rally session is that Nothing is Impossible with Jesus.  Our church does youth rally twice per year.  Last youth rally in April the students watched the movie Soul Surfer.  Tonight they watched a shorter version called the Heart of a Soul Surfer.  This was the behind the scenes kind of documentary where the girl Bethany Hamilton shared her story and her faith.  It was very touching and she really motivated many people tonight with her words.  God chooses to use people in many different ways for his purposes.
Jason had a blast at the church.  He was dancing around at the front while the band was playing and rocking out to all of the music.  I was pretty impressed that Jason was clapping on beat in rhythm.  Even when we switched tempos he still matched the rhythm.  He is definitely his father’s son in many ways!  Tonight he was using every excuse possible to not have to go to bed.  What a goof!  They have a big youth rally night of worship tomorrow and Jacob is bringing in his acoustic drums to play.  The church has an electric drum set but they want it to be a really loud night of worship so Jacob wants to bring his in.  He took them out of storage when we came home and has been polishing them up for over an hour.  I love that he is so passionate about drumming and that he LOVES to use his talents to serve God in whatever ways he can!
Lord I thank you for this awesome day that you have given us.  I thank you for the improvements that Jordan is making and the work that you are doing in his body.  I praise you that his intestines and digestion is doing so well and that you created him in this way to benefit him.  I ask that you would continue to strengthen his breathing and allow him to come off of the ventilator soon.  I praise you for his growth and his success.  I ask that you would use Jordan and us through this journey and in the years to come.  I pray that you be with all the youth this weekend attending youth rally.  Lord please touch their hearts and open their minds up to you and your path.  Lead these youth to you and bring them closer to you through this weekend.  Lord I ask that you would reveal the paths that you want us to take for our futures.  Show us the way and lead us along the path that you have planned out.  Give us wisdom to hear your voice and follow your lead.  I ask that you would strengthen us and give us rest.  Please speak to us through this youth rally weekend as well and bring us closer to you.  Thank you for the many blessings you have placed in our lives.  We love you lord.  Send us and use us according to your perfect will.  Amen.
