54 days old 8-1-12

I cannot believe that it is August already.  It seems like forever ago that our journey with Jordan started.  At the same time, it feels like it has gone so fast.  Crazy how time works like that.  He will be two months old in just one week!  I am so thankful that we have been blessed with this little boy and so thankful for his success and progress.  Today was a good day.  It started out a little rough because both Jacob and I were tired from going to bed too late the night before.  I am reading the last book in the Eragon series and I did not want to put it down.  Anyways, after Jacob and I worked out our grumpiness, the day shifted to being much better!
We saw Jordan around our usual time and he looked so big and strong.  Last night we found out that his new weight is 2lbs 2oz.  YAY  He weighs more than two pounds now!  It is really exciting that he has almost tripled his birth weight (12.8 oz).  We are so amazed by him and his success.  The doctor said that this is the ideal weight that they were hoping for to take him off of the ventilator.  God is doing such great things through Jordan’s little body!  When we arrived at the NICU they were preparing another baby to head into surgery.  They had the baby’s incubator on a stretcher to roll it into the OR and they were preparing the machines to go with the baby to provide support.  I don’t know what the baby needed to have done but I pray that God would bless that little one and give strength to his or her parents.  After they placed the baby in the incubator, the baby put his or her hand up against the plastic like in a waving motion.  All the nurses squealed in delight about how cute the baby was.  They kept saying kawaii (cute).  I love it to see how much they care for and adore these babies.  It would be hard to not get attached to these little beings that you support and care for on a daily basis.  I am so thankful for the nurses.  All the nurses around the world deserve special thanks.
Today Jordan was switched over to the different ventilator mode called PAV.  This mode provides the least assistance than the other modes and simply allows Jordan to breathe on his own accord.  When he takes a shallow breath it gives shallow pressure and when he takes a deep breath it gives deep pressure.  How awesome is technology that they have designed these machines to acknowledge and react to the movement of the body.  I really find it awesome.  I thank God for the technology advancements.  The doctor said that they plan to have him on this machine for one week and then they will proceed with the extubation or removal of the ventilation tube.  We are so close to this major step.  Pray that God would have his hands on this process and allow the weaning to CPAP to go smoothly and on time.  Also pray that God would guide Jordan’s lungs and increase his breathing strength and frequency and that his lungs would have protection from any bacteria or infection.  We would love for there to be no delays.  We know that God has everything timed out to perfection.  He may be able to get the tube removed on his 2month birthday!
Jordan’s CRP went up a little bit this morning.  The doctors did not know why this happened.  It was 2.1 yesterday afternoon and this morning it was 2.6.  They still do not know the type of infection that is causing the inflammation but they are still growing the cultures to find out.  Hopefully the results will come back very soon.  They are continuing his antibiotic for now.  Pray for wisdom and that God would heal the infection and inflammation completely.  Also we ask that God would reveal where the infection is located so doctors can treat it better.
Jordan was showing us his muscles today.  He was lying on his tummy and he lifted his head up at least an inch away from the blanket for several seconds at a time.  What a strong boy he is! He did it at least 5 times while we were there.  I am so thankful for his progress.  What a little miracle boy he is!  I will always cherish the time I spend with him.
Jason had a great day.  He loves hanging out at his babysitter’s house.  They do an awesome job at including him in their family.  He jumped on the trampoline and swam in their pool.  He just cannot stop talking about those girls!  They have 4 girls and he just adores them!  I think they adore him too!  When we got home he played with his cars and watched blue’s clues.  He also had the hiccups like five times and he thought they were just so funny.  I love his energy and spirit.  I am excited to have both of my boys home to love on and play with.  I know its going to be rough trying to keep up with them in the future!
Lord I thank you for the blessings you have placed in our lives.  I praise your name for your awesome power.  I thank you for the small and big things that you are doing in our lives each and every day.  I praise you that Jordan was able to switch to the PAV mode for the ventilator and that his progress is increasing so that they have a much more stable time frame to take him off of the ventilator.  I pray that you would allow the process to go smoothly and safely.  Lord thank you for Jordan’s weight gain.  He is growing so quickly and we are blessed with his progress.  We pray that you would protect Jordan’s lungs from infection and completely remove the current infection that he is still battling.  Give the doctors wisdom and guidance as they make decisions for Jordan’s health and wellness.  I praise you for Jason and his loving and energetic attitude.  I ask that you would give us the energy to keep up with him and to give him the time and attention that he deserves.  I thank you for the three awesome guys in my life.  Watch over Jordan and encompass him in your love.  I ask all these things in your name, Amen.
